Access to Business, Wolverhampton based Charity is the Lead partner on the joint project with SWEDA (Skills Work and Enterprise Development Agency), Charity based in Sandwell – ‘RAISE – Raising Aspirations, Inspiring Self-Employment and Social Enterprise’.
The project funded by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) delivers support to entrepreneurs in the Black Country to set up and run their businesses, specifically targeting new and early stage entrepreneurs from underrepresented groups including women, BME communities and disabled people. Initially 3 year project 2016-2018, RAISE has been extended to 2021 due to its successful performance during the first stage.
Access to Business and SWEDA deliver a range of FREE workshops that cover Business Planning, Marketing, Finance and Legals. We provide quality post support such as Bookkeeping, Self Assessment and Social Media for your business or enterprise when you begin trading.
By reducing barriers to business/social enterprise start-up and self-employment RAISE aims to enable local entrepreneurs to thrive; injecting enterprise into the grass roots of local communities and supporting employment growth across our region.
Initially a 3 year project running from 2016-2018, RAISE has been extended to 2021 due to its successful performance and outstanding outcomes.
In this period we have supported over 1800 entrepreneurs and 618 existing businesses to develop and grow their enterprises.
RAISE builds on the previous successful SEED (Supporting Employment and Enterprise Development) project delivered in partnership between Access to Business and SWEDA during 2012-2015, which supported 1445 people resulting in 155 businesses and created in the Black Country providing employment for nearly 200 people.
An independent evaluation of the project was carried out by CAAT Services Ltd. The evaluators concluded that:
“The RAISE programme and its predecessor SEED have proved in their targeted intervention that the third sector approach to supporting people to start businesses works!! Aspiring entrepreneurs and members of the hardest to reach communities would not have a chance at starting a business without this kind of support.”
