About this qualification:
The qualification is intended for learners, including adults and young people, who need to develop their mathematical skills at this level in order to progress in further study, work or life. It is particularly suitable for learners who will benefit from a stepped approach to learning mathematics and for those learners who are working at different levels in different aspects of mathematics, as the Entry 1 Certificate allows for some achievement at Entry 2 and Entry 3.
Entry requirements
Learners do not need any prior qualifications or a specific level of attainment to take this qualification. However, it is anticipated that the qualification will have been selected as suitable for the individual learner on the basis of findings from initial and/or diagnostic assessment. It is available to learners of any age.
Who is it suitable for?
For learners looking to become confident in their use of fundamental mathematical knowledge and skills.
The purpose of Functional Skills Mathematics Entry Level qualifications are to demonstrate a sound grasp of the underpinning skills and basics of mathematical skills appropriate to the level, and the ability to apply mathematical thinking to solve simple problems in familiar situations.

About this qualification:
This qualification is designed to help learners begin to develop the mathematical skills that are needed in a wide range of job roles. Learners progressing directly into work are likely to be taking up entry-level job roles or supported employment opportunities.
Entry requirements
There are no pre-entry requirements for this qualification and no minimum age requirement has been set for registration.
Who is it suitable for?
Learners can progress from this Entry 2 Certificate:
- To an Entry 3 (or sometimes Level 1) Functional Skills qualification in mathematics
- To other qualifications at Entry 3 and above, for example in preparation for employment or in a vocational area
- Towards a GCSE in Mathematics

About this qualification:
At Entry Level 3, it is expected that learners will be able to address individual
problems, each of which draws on knowledge and/or skills from one mathematical
content area (i.e. number and the number system; common measures, shape and
space; information and data).

Who is it suitable for?
Entry Level 3 learners are expected to be able to use the knowledge and skills listed above to recognise a simple problem and obtain a solution. A simple problem is one which requires working through one step or process.
Learners at Entry Level 3 are required to demonstrate their understanding of underpinning skills, and their ability to apply mathematical thinking to solve problems in familiar contexts:
