The purpose of Functional Skills English Entry Level qualifications are to demonstrate the ability at an appropriate level to read, write, speak, listen and communicate in English, and to apply this knowledge and these skills in familiar situations.
There are no pre-entry requirements for this qualification and no minimum age requirement has been set for registration.
Functional Skills qualifications in English at Entry Level are ideal for learners wishing to develop practical, transferable skills in English in order to work confidently, effectively and independently in life. It is suitable for a wide range of individuals and is fundamental to the successful completion of various wider qualifications and frameworks, such as Foundation Learning.
Learners will learn how to decode a limited number of familiar words and locate information from simple written sources. They will learn how to follow simple text and recognise purpose.
Designed to help learners who need to develop written English skills needed in a wide range of job roles.
Learners will learn to listen and respond to simple spoken information and exchanges, communicate basic information in informal and formal situations and engage in simple discussion.

The purpose of the Functional Skills English Level 2 qualification is to prepare the learner for work, study and life. Learners who achieve this qualification will demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, listen and communicate in English. Learners will be able to apply these skills effectively to a range of purposes in the workplace and in real life situations.
There are no pre-entry requirements for this qualification and no minimum age requirement has been set for registration.
This qualification is suitable for learners studying the following: apprenticeships, traineeships, study programmes, T-Levels. This qualification is part of a suite of English qualifications it allows learners to progress through a framework of English units and qualifications from Entry 1 to Level 2.
Learners will learn how to engage in straightforward discussion in familiar contexts.
Learners will learn how to read straightforward written sources for information and to develop their understanding of spelling to decode words.
Learners will learn how to read short straightforward texts for purpose and meaning and use simple strategies to support understanding.
Learners will learn how to speak to communicate in different situations
Learners will learn to write legibly, using punctuation and spelling familiar words correctly.
Learners will learn to write to communicate simple information.

In this qualification learners will learn to read texts and other media for purpose, meaning and information; listen and respond in conversations and discussions; speak to communicate in different situations; engage in discussion, and write accurately to communicate for different purposes.
Learners do not need any prior qualifications or a specific level of attainment to take this qualification. However, it is anticipated that the qualification will have been selected as suitable for the individual learner on the basis of findings from initial and/or diagnostic assessment
