Access to Business Win Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

We are delighted to announce that Access to Business has been awarded 'The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service', the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK, the equivalent of an MBE for volunteer groups.

The presentation ceremony took place on Thursday 27th July 2017 in The Mayor’s Parlour of the City of Wolverhampton Council. 

The presentation has been made by Deputy Lieutenants Major Sylvia Parkin MBE TD JP DL and Dr Satya Sharma MBE DL. Also in attendance was The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Elias Mattu. 

The event was attended by over 60 people including Councillor John Reynolds, Council members, funder representatives, partners, Access to Business’s volunteers, staff and partners.

In honour of the award 2 Access to Business staff team also attended The Queen’s Garden Party on 16th May joining over 7000 other guests. In attendance was The Queen, Prince Phillip, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (William and Kate), The Princess Royal (Princess Anne), Prince Edward and Princess Eugenie.

Chief Executive Josie Kelly said “We are absolutely honoured and delighted to have received our Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services. For over 15 years we have been providing services for unemployed and disabled people in our City to improve their skills, confidence and support their route to employment. Volunteers play a vitally important role in supporting our work and include our volunteer Board of Directors and many local volunteers supporting and promoting our work helping others to improve their lives.”

An invitation was given for the ladies enjoy a guided tour of the hotels facilities, followed by networking and a buffet lunch.

The audience was then inspired by a lively and informative panel of guest speakers included – Angela Bir –Owner of Ramada Park Hall Hotel, Julie Wall 3degrees Social, Lisa Smith (Prepared PR) Natalie Cutler (Writer/Actor) and Sarah Ellen (Sarah Ellen Designs).

This gave an opportunity for the Women to gain further information on the essential advice and guidance and training available to both start and grow their businesses.
