In June 2019 Access to Business, Wolverhampton based Charity, was recognised as the Disability Confident Leader, demonstrating confidence in recruiting, retaining and developing disabled staff and volunteers and acting as a champion for Disability Confident within the local and business communities. We thank the West Midlands Police in their time validating the application and helping the local charity to achieve the award.

Access to Business supports local people into employment, self-employment and social enterprise, specialising in supporting disadvantaged people with health problems or disabilities. Access to Business is an active member of Wolverhampton Equality and Diversity Partnership (WEDP) and is promoting equality and inclusion since its opening 2004.

Wayne Grew, Employability Advisor, said: “I am very proud to work for such an inclusive organisation that recognises and promotes equality in such a positive way to its clients, volunteers and employees. Receiving the recognition as a Disability Confident Leader just shows how dedicated all our staff are at Access to Business at removing barriers into employment at all our levels of support that we deliver. This is a massive achievement for all involved and I would like to thank Lillie Abbott and Michael Braycotton from West Midlands Police for validating our application; without their support it would not have been made possible. I would also like to thank Josie Kelly CEO and the Access to Business Board for encouraging all staff to champion the diversity in all aspects of our work.”

Josie Kelly, Chief Executive, commented: “We are delighted to be recognised as the Disability Confident Leader! After achieving the Disability Confident Employer status few years ago and the ‘The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service’ in 2017, we believed we could step-up to lead and support local groups and businesses to promote good practice and continuously improve the services for disabled people in our communities. This is just the start of another fantastic journey for Access to Business and I have been heartened by the commitment and dedication of our staff to this area of work.”

West Midlands Police will be officially presenting Access to Business with the Disability Confident Leader award on Tuesday 16th July at Access to Business offices, 81 Tempest Street, Wolverhampton, WV2 1AA.
