Take a look at some of our client success stories
Dalton – Volunteering
Following two strokes Dalton had mobility issues, prior to which he had led an extremely active life as a Support worker as well as playing an active role within his local church. Dalton came to Access to Business to develop his general IT skills and we introduced him to use specialist to help overcome some of his barriers. Dalton also attended numerous workshops following which he also started to volunteer with us often supporting fellow clients who were experiencing difficulties using a traditional keyboard.
Dalton is an inspiration and a role model to other clients. Following our nomination he was awarded national runner up ‘IT Volunteer of the Year’ in a Microsoft and BT Volunteering Award. He also received the Point of Light Award Volunteering award from the Prime Minister, David Cameron who had recognised Dalton`s commitment in supporting others. Dalton was also invited to the City of Wolverhampton Mayor`s parlour in acknowledgement of his great work within the Wolverhampton community.
Wellington – Self-Employment
Wellington came to Access to Business as he needed support and guidance to develop his business. He had had great products but had experienced many issues in establishing his business and customer base. Our advisors support him and helped to develop his business and introduce legal structures and access new customers. More recently Wellington has secured contract with major distributors and, with support from City of Wolverhampton Council, will be growing his business further.
Lisa had been out of work for over 20 years where she had been struggling with both anxiety and depression and admitted that she had no IT skills. Lisa attended our IT workshops to develop her skills where she was able to start applying for work online unassisted. Now, with more confidence, Lisa felt that she was more focused to start the journey in looking for employment.
Within 3 months Lisa successfully gained her Food Safety Level 2 qualification and attended a 2 week work placement with Lloyds Banking Group which gave Lisa a real insight of working within a large office environment.
This has now given Lisa the necessary motivation required and is now seriously looking for work within the administration sector now she has improved both her confidence and IT skills.
